About The Review

A broad and comprehensive assessment of BCCC.

The Banking Code Compliance Committee (BCCC) is undergoing a periodic independent review, as required by its Charter. Peter Kell has been appointed to conduct the review.

The review is an opportunity to consider how the BCCC can continue to deliver strong, independent oversight of the Banking Code. It will explore what is working well, where the BCCC can be more effective, and how its impact can be strengthened for the future.

Stakeholders are invited to contribute through the public consultation process, running from October to December 2026.

The role of the BCCC

An independent body that monitors banks' compliance with the Banking Code of Practice

Its goal is to drive best practice implementation of the Code, lifting standards of service across the Australian banking industry and helping banks create a better experience for customers.

To improve banks’ compliance and service standards, the BCCC examines banks’ practices and identifies current and emerging problems across the industry. It recommends specific improvements banks should make to their practices and can sanction banks for serious compliance failures.
